The idea of reading this book never really appealed to me since its release, even during the movie hype a while back.  A book targeting racism using “colored maids” in the southern states?  How unoriginal.  Finally, I picked it up for a dollar at the library sale and WOW definitely worth more than that dollar I paid!  The story had humour, heart, and most importantly, I fell in love with all the characters.  For me, the characters make or break a book, and it most certainly made this one.  The only bad thing is that since the copy I bought had the movie cover, all I could see were the actresses in my head as the events unfolded.  I couldn’t even imagine what the three main characters looked like because all I saw were EMMA STONE, VIOLA DAVIS, AND OCTAVIA SPENCER.  This is why I usually want to read the book first - so I can have a say in what I think the characters will look and be like before a director tells me so.  Nonetheless, I am still excited to see what they did with the movie.  I just saw the trailer and it looks promising! 
If you haven’t already, go read The Help, by Kathryn Stockett.  It’s well worth your time, and it’ll be tugging at your heartstrings fo sho :)
